#201 The 2nd Ichiro Masaki Memorial Universal Village EM International Conference

#201 The 2nd Ichiro Masaki Memorial Universal Village EM International Conference

EM and Universal Village, EM's Role in Solving Global Problems

EM grew into an independent session at the Universal Village International Conference, which was founded by Dr. Ichiro Masaki of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). Dr. Masaki had a firm belief that the various problems occurring on the earth could be solved by utilizing microorganisms, and he had high hopes for the use of EM, thus his proposal to create a model of a universal village.

In other words, it is about solving problems, including those involving chemical substances, radioactive materials, plastics, electromagnetic waves, etc. and “building a village at the universal level that conserves the global environment and biodiversity, and achieves a sustainable development for humanity.”

The first conference was held in 2022, and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, participants mainly presented case studies from Japan via ZOOM, but the second conference in 2024 was held in person at the EM Wellness Fermentation Lifestyle Resort on November 30th. With participants from 27 countries, the conference was a great success and a wonderful opportunity to expand the Universal Village to the world.

I will discuss more details in DND, but the following presentations included introductions to the EM Universal Village in Kitanakagusuku Village (Okinawa Prefecture), where the first phase of the project has been completed, a new type of rice cultivation using salt weeding (Mie Prefecture), the results of Koizumi Farm (Kanagawa Prefecture) and Amrita Farm (Hokkaido), bioremediation with EM technology in India, the Genki Ala Wai Project in Hawaii, and zero-waste urban development using EM in Malaysia. All of the projects have reached a high level of completion and have content that can easily be shared throughout the world.

The use of EM technology in the fields of agriculture, the environment, and health has almost reached its conclusion, in other words, the simple method of making high quality activated EM solution (0.5% to 3.5 salt), using it as freely as one would use air and water, and using it extensively as a part of living and work space, in the home and at work.

The next challenge is to utilize the versatile quantum mechanical properties of EM. It has already been applied to barriers, and the use of EM has not only increased productivity in the fields mentioned above but has also had good results in measures against pests and wild birds and animals, and in reducing disasters such as earthquakes and floods. At the next conference, the third conference, we plan to have presentations on the excellent results found in this field.

NHK, Japan Broadcasting Corporation Aired the Achievements of EM

In November 2024, two TV programs featured efforts to utilize EM. Although the word "EM” was not mentioned, the content of the programs made clear the importance of “utilizing microorganisms.”

The first program was aired on "Close-up Today" on November 20th. This program introduced the significance of the purification activities being conducted at the Ala Wai Canal in Hawaii, which is beginning a new field of environmental tourism and expanding the potential of local tourism. The program also featured the making of EM Genki Balls, but the name “EM” was not used, and they were introduced as one of utilizing microorganisms.

The second program was about Mr. Tomoharu Seki, a rice farmer, who was featured on the well-known program "The Professionals" on November 27th.

There is a type of rice that has become legendary. It has been recognized as the best rice six times in a row, and while it sells for over three times the price of other rice, customers from all over the world come to taste it and buy it. The creator of this rice is Tomoharu Seki. He has a unique background as a professional snowboarder and was born the eldest son of a farming family but turned his back on farming. “Farming was the job I last wanted to do,” he says, but now he is devoting himself to rice farming. In the midst of drastic changes in the world environment, including rice shortages and global warming, his is the story of a young innovative farmer who declares that “Farming is the greatest work a person can do.”
This program also emphasized the importance of microorganisms, but did not explain that he uses EM.

The Earth exists in a sea of microorganisms, and even rice paddies and surrounding environments that are not cultivated with EM are full of microorganisms. Until now, because the presence of bad bacteria was more noticeable, microorganisms were considered as “bad things” or “objects to be sterilized,” and the conventional wisdom was that microorganisms were our enemy.

EM solved this problem by steadily increasing the number of beneficial microorganisms and working to neutralize the bad microorganisms in the environment or make them useful.

In other words, without EM, the results introduced on the TV shows would never have been possible. Its revolutionary effects have been recognized around the world, and the use of EM to improve microbial environment is drawing widespread attention. Proof of this lies in the fact that the term “EM” is used in many situations now instead of the more common term “microorganisms.”

Additional details about Mr. Seki’s rice faming that were not broadcast on NHK are as follows.
