Living A Dream

On June 26 and 27, 2021, the FFC (Foods for Children) Okinawa Forum 2021 was held. Through this forum, we learned that there are various heretofore unanticipated problems occurring with children’s physical and mental health, and that to deal with these problems we must understand and incorporate organic food and the essence of nature into our daily lives.

The number of children with issues such as developmental disabilities is on the rise every year. If the number continues to increase, medical expenses will likewise increase, which will become a major problem for our society in the future. As one measure in dealing with developmental disabilities we need to let everyone know the reality of “curing” and ways to avoid getting sick.

From what Mr. Funabashi, Mr. Yoshida, and Mr. Tamaki spoke of at the forum the conclusion is that life must follow the principles of nature. This was made very clear. Human society is based on profit and loss and premised on confrontation and competition, and there is a deep-rooted belief that the winners are righteous, a distortion that has become the structural mechanism for diseases and social evils. 

The answer has already been given through this forum, but making it work as part of a social structure is no easy task. It requires high aspirations and a variety of wisdom, skills and courage to keep those aspirations from fading. The way of life of the people who spoke to us at this forum shows how we can enrich our own lives. 

Fortunately, the United Nations has been working on the SDGs since 2014, and the SDGs are now starting to be seen as a duty for countries and the UN. 

Basically, we need to start with the idea of “food for health” and a way of life that prevents illness. In other words, we need to create a system that allows people to live safely and securely by actively working to build children’s health through food, and by actively protecting the environment and nature through food production sites. 

The movement to provide school lunches that are safe and healthful, which is the purpose of this forum, began in 1960 with Rachel Carson’s book Silent Spring, which revealed the various harmful effects of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. 

In order for this fact to become part of the social structure, the SDGs movement must be thoroughly implemented. Ultimately, we need to produce food that is safe, enjoyable to consume, low cost and high quality, and that is part of a positive, sustainable system. In order to achieve this, we should acquire knowledge and application of DNA and microorganisms, the smallest functional units of life, delve deeper into the meaning of life, and cultivate a way of life that is consistent with nature’s principles.

I will begin by explaining the scientific basis of the activities Ms. Maejima has undertaken on her own to realize concrete solutions for developmental disorders, which led to the success of this forum despite the difficult situation brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

 

There may be a misconception that FFC and Ms. Maejima’s activities lie outside the current medical and legal system, but since they have already reached a level where they have sufficient information and technology, it would not be so difficult to make them part of society once a model is created.

There is an inevitability to Ms. Maejima’s challenge that is backed up by her long experience. If people like this can obtain the wisdom and cooperation of various other people, Universal Village is bound to become a reality.

At the same time, I think we can make Ms. Maejima’s idea of a prosperous country a reality if we use the cooperation model of EM Research Organization, Inc., U-net (United Network for Earth Environment, NPO corporation), International Nature Farming Research Center (Public Interest  Incorporated Foundation, and others. 

The government is gradually beginning to understand these activities, and SDGs activities and FFC activities should be the responsibility of society as a whole.

 

Mr. A from Kyoto has sent me an update on the status of the pine tree at Wakoan in June, as reported in the last issue No.161 (March 19, 2021).

I will report on what is happening in Okinawa in the next issue.

Hello, Dr. Higa,
I hope all is well.
I went to see the pine tree at Wakoan and it is doing very well.
There are no leaves withered at the ends of branches. 
I wanted to take a picture of the whole pine tree, but the tree is too large for me to take a good picture.
I was very happy to see it so lush and green.
