#96: Lake Suwa Sousei lecture

The Lake Suwa Sousei lecture was held on May 24th at the Cultural Center of Suwa to commemorate the first meeting of "NPO Shinatobe," which was established for the purpose of regional revitalization focusing on the purification of Lake Suwa. We also had a meeting the day before the lecture, a very concrete and meaningful group study session for the purpose of exchanging EM information. This involved people from the Central, Kanto and Tohoku regions actively using EM who have agreed to cooperate in the activities of "NPO Shinatobe," and who have had numerous successes in their own areas.

Since four years ago "NPO Shinatobe" has used EM to deal with pollution in Lake Suwa, and has achieved many good results as shown in the illustrations below. In recognition of these achievements, and having confirmed the results of using EM in water purification both inside and outside the prefecture, Nagano Prefecture decided to provide a subsidy of about 4 million yen to "NPO Shinatobe".
About 300 people participated in the lecture that day, including many officials from the prefectural government and assembly. The lectures included a presentation by Katsuhiro Hirano, who cleaned up Lake Izunuma in Kurihara City, Miyagi Prefecture all by himself, and by Professor Matsunori Nara from Tokyo University of Science, Suwa, who presented on natural energy and environmental creation in the entire Suwa region, outlining a specific vision for the future.

Lake Suwa is the headwaters of the Tenryu River, a very long river that pours into the Pacific Ocean through Shizuoka Prefecture via Nagano Prefecture. Naturally, if Lake Suwa is pure and its ecology is abundant, the Tenryu River will also be pure with a rich environment, meaning, too, that the Pacific Ocean coast facing the estuary will become a purified and enriched environment. It is realistic to expect that in five to ten years, it will become a world-acclaimed EM model case of the revival of lakes and rivers, the ecosystem, the protection of biodiversity, and a large-scale revival of fishery resources.

It is time to start preparing EM and EM mudballs for nationwide use during the annual Marine Day (July 20). I am looking forward to see the enjoyable activities of this year's Marine Day.
