Double Orange Yield With 40% Cost Cut

Antola Family’s Orange Farm, Huaral province, Peru
The Orange farm operated by the Antola family is located in Huaral province, north of Lima, Peru. The types of oranges they are growing Tangelo and W-Murcott. EM Technology is used for irrigation and foliar applications. For the fertilizer, fermented liquid fertilizer is injected into the soil. Liquid fertilizer is made by mixing fish residue with EM・1, molasses and water, then fermenting it for 5~6 days. Every week, they use 20 litters of liquid fertilizer per hectare.
As a result, 80% of their oranges are high quality and they have started exporting them. After using EM・1 for 6 years, they can harvest 90 tons of oranges per hectare. At a neighboring farm which doesn’t use EM technology, their yield are about 55 tons per hectare, which is less than two-thirds of the Antola family’s farm. By using EM technology, the Antola family could cut down on chemical fertilizer and reduce their cost of production by 40%.
