Earth Toilet Project
Japan"Earth Toilet Project" is an eco-conscious activity to attain an odorless portable toilet by degrading excrement with the power of microbes.
In 2018, The Solar Budokan was held in Nakatsugawa and Earth Toilet was present, helping the participants be more comfortable with the portable toilet usage. Not only the bad smell was better, but also the toilets were cleaner.

Mechanism
By spraying an acidic liquid on the alkaline odor, it is neutralized and deodorized. There is no need to mask foul odors with other scents as pleasant and foul smells will not mix.
The enzyme that EM produces in the fermented liquid has the function of decomposing dirt. We can ferment and decompose the odor source by pouring the fermented liquid in the toilet bowl.
There are a lot of activated good bacteria such as lactic acid bacteria and yeast in EM fermented liquid. In the world of microbes, when good bacteria predominates, it becomes an environment where is difficult for bad bacteria to reproduce.

The Solar Budokan 2018
The Solar Budokan is a music festival held at Nakatsugawa Park in Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. The festival started in 2011 under the concept "Let’s play music that does not rely on nuclear power”, after the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred, where the nuclear power plant collapsed.
As the name implies, they use Solar Panels to power the festival, thus avoiding the need of nuclear power.
Despite the distance from Fukushima to Gifu, the radioactive material leaked from the nuclear power plant has become a threat to everyone's health. Only food and beverages that have passed the radioactivity test are sold.
Garbage produced at the venue and campsite is sorted so that it can be recycled. For the garbage that cannot be recycled, the heat energy generated during incineration is collected, being reused to boil hot water and generating electricity.
Results
Having participated for the first time in The Solar Budokan 2018, the Earth Toilet Project was in charge of 100 microbial toilets for 300,000 participants. To know the opinion of the users, wet tissues were distributed to wipe their hands after getting out of the microbial toilet, and asked them to put it in the box marked as "Good" or in the box marked as "Bad".
88% of microbial toilet users rated the microbial toilet as Good, with 357 in the GOOD box and 47 in the Bad box.
