APNAN

The Network on Kyusei Nature Farming and EM Technology

APNAN, the Asia Pacific Natural Agriculture Network, is a little organization founded in Thailand, and promoting the concepts of Kyusei Nature Farming and EM Technology, with contacts in all continents of the globe. It is a very successful and dynamic network, with the drive, energy and ambition to achieve its goals.
The concepts of Kyusei Nature Farming was introduced to the world by an erudite Japanese philosopher, Mokichi Okada (1882-1955), who foresaw the problems of intensive chemical farming and its impact on food, the environment and human health. Hence the concepts of Kyusei Nature Farming were adopted by a sector of Japanese, and this form of Nature Farming is practiced. The merging of the technology of Effective Microorganisms (EM) in the mid 1980s strengthened the concepts of Kyusei Nature Farming. The technology of EM, developed by Dr. Teruo Higa, professor emeritus at the University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa, Japan, blended common microbes into a solution, that could enhance the fermentation processes of composting and remove odor, which are two common problems of waste management and also organic or Nature Farming.

The concepts of Kyusei Nature Farming and EM Technology were introduced to the world in 1989, through the First International Conference on Kyusei Nature Farming, held in Thailand. The 13 countries from the Asia Pacific region, ranging from Pakistan across Asia to the East Coast of the USA formed the network APNAN, with the objective of testing the scientific validity of the technologies offered at the conference in their respective ecosystems. This was the seed – planted in Thailand that grew to be APNAN!!
With time, the activities of APNAN spread across Asia and with the responsibilities of organizing the International Conferences on Kyusei Nature Farming in France, Thailand, South Africa and New Zealand, and a host of smaller meetings in Thailand and neighboring nations, conducting training programs, making EM in the respective nations, using microbes from their own ecosystems and publishing Newsletters and other documents. These programs inevitably led to the expansion of the mandate region for this little network – and today APNAN has contacts in all continents and conducts training programs to the international community, makes EM and does a host of other activities related to Kyusei Nature Farming and EM Technology in many parts of the globe.
Hence, it is a successful network – and all interested in our activities…. Please do contact us… we will surely show a way to produce better food in a cleaner environment to lead a healthy life through Kyusei Nature Farming and EM Technology.
